Primary responsibilities include:

  • Managing the Conservancy’s restoration and maintenance projects within the Emerald Necklace parks, including managing the people needed to implement the work
  • Providing staff support to the Conservancy’s “Park Overseers,” a committee of other organizations with a shared interest in the Emerald Necklace

Both roles require a skilled listener and collaborator who will maintain open communication both with the park owners (Boston, Brookline and the Commonwealth of Mass.) and with the myriad of constituents represented on the Park Overseers.

Project management will include overseeing the implementation of the Conservancy’s ongoing restoration and maintenance projects, planning and executing volunteer events, maintaining clear lines of communication with our public-sector partners, creating schedules and budgets, tracking expenses, researching BMPs, and monitoring and documenting progress – all done in collaboration with the Conservancy’s current Project Manager, as well as our public-sector partners and their maintenance/horticulture staff. Projects range from small re-planting and pruning projects to larger rehabilitation of woodlands, river edges, and historic plantings.

Supporting the Park Overseers will include planning and facilitating meetings of both the Park Overseers group as a whole, as well as some of the three working groups that that focus on 1) access into and within the parks, 2) public education about the parks, and 3) restoration and maintenance projects within the parks. In addition, the Project Manager will manage some of the projects taken on by the working groups.
