GIA supports two bills under consideration by
Joint Committee on Environmental, Natural Resources & Agriculture

Especially if you live in Holliston, Gloucester, Marlboro, Spencer, Taunton, or Westport.

Members of the Green Industry Alliance  (GIA), along with legislative agent Stephen Boksanski, recently met with Anne Gobi the House Chair of the Joint Committee on Environment, Natural Resources and Agriculture. It was a very productive meeting and our GIA representatives were able to provide some insight on two bills of particular interest to the green industry (S. 327 and SB 2046).  While Representative Gobi did not commit to reporting these bills out favorably, the GIA group felt she is inclined to do so --- with some support from industry:

S.327, An Act Relative to Water Conservation.  This bill adds the definition of an “irrigation system” to the MGL and directs the DEP to promulgate regulations requiring system interruptions devices for consumers who choose to install a new irrigation system.

SB 2046, An Act Relative to the Powers of the Department of Agriculture.   This bill gives the DAR the authority to develop standards for nutrient levels in fertilizer in conjunction with the Extension at the University of Massachusetts.

Our next step is to target the following committee members and ask them to register their support for both of these bills with the Chairmen.

. Marc R. Pacheco (D-Taunton), Senate Chair
. James B. Eldridge (D-Marlborough), Senate Vice Chair

. Anne Gobi (D-Spencer), House Chair
. Ann-Margaret Ferrante (D-Gloucester), House Vice Chair
. Paul A. Schmid (D-Westport)
. Carolyn C. Dykema (D-Holliston)

If you live, or work, in these districts we ask that you reach out to these legislators no later than October 20, 2011.

It’s quick and easy:

  1. Customize the cover letter template and print it out on company letterhead, or… Send it via e-mail and include your town in the subject line: i.e. Taunton Resident/Business in Support of S. 327 & SB 2046
  2. Be sure to attach/enclose the two GIA position statements

It is very important that you heed this call to action --- both of these bills are important to landscape contractors in Massachusetts.

Thank you,

Monique Allen, MCLP
GIA Representative
